ABOUT THE AWARDS:

Nigeria has the largest private sector in Africa and therefore the most privately owned business entities, ranging from small and medium sized enterprises to multinational corporations. Being a federal state it also has more state owned enterprises than most if not all the other nations in Africa.

The men and women who run corporate Nigeria are crucial to the fortunes of the corporations they head as their respective Chief Executive Officers. This is why those whose performance and conduct in the role of CEO have been exemplary deserve to be publicly recognized.

Indeed this is already being done through various award schemes. However, the most credible, and therefore valued recognition of outstanding performance by a CEO, is derived from the opinion of the public.

Consequently we are organizing the second edition of the Nigeria’s Most Respected CEOs Awards, whereby the CEOs most respected across a wide range of delineated sectors and all the States of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, will be identified by public voting nationwide and subsequently will be honoured at a special awards conferment ceremony – a strictly by invitation, red carpet gala evening event at which the CEOs in Nigeria, most respected by the general public, will be conferred with their awards.

RATIONALE
Corporate Nigeria is highly competitive due to the vibrancy of the country’s private sector, the huge size of the domestic market in which this competition takes place and more recently, the creation of even larger foreign markets . Thus the fortunes of various companies, both private and public sector owned, depends largely upon the managerial acumen of their respective CEOs., Indeed, the corporations that perform best tend to be those managed by the most capable CEOs.

This means that outstanding CEOs deserve to be publicly recognized and indeed they are through various award schemes which they are eligible to be nominated for. However, most award schemes are sector specific and are determined by a relatively small group of award jurists.

Our impending awards however will cover an exhaustive array of sectors in one award scheme. Just as importantly, every awardee in every sector, will be determined by public voting, thus justifying the title Most Respected CEO in that sector.

In this way, the awards will not only reward the most outstanding CEOs in each sector of business activity in Nigeria; it will also encourage them to step up even further and will establish role models for other CEOs to strive to emulate with regards to corporate leadership and management.

Furthermore it will enhance both the professional reputations of the awarded CEOs and the corporate reputations of the enterprises they lead, which would be invaluable with regards to their relationships with their various stakeholders, customers, shareholders, employees, regulators, suppliers and business support service providers alike.
